TabiDex Privacy Policy

Which version this covers
This policy describes TabiDex’s Apple-only release, with Apple system voices and the consent and data controls described below. These source changes are newer than TestFlight build 13. Until an updated build is installed, some controls may differ. Earlier beta builds may offer an optional OpenAI API connection; see “Earlier beta versions” below. Check your installed version and the release notes.
Translation and AI on your device
TabiDex processes Japanese and English speech, recognized text, translations, selected photos, and optional AI reply ideas or photo explanations on your iPhone using Apple frameworks. English recognition requires on-device support. Apple Intelligence must be enabled and its models ready for AI features. There is no TabiDex translation server, app account, advertising SDK, or external AI provider in the Apple-only release. We do not receive your conversations, source photos, or generated replies through these app features.
Language, speech, AI, and system-voice resources may require downloads from Apple. Selecting an iCloud-backed photo can require an Apple-managed download. Local processing does not mean that setup, website access, support email, or every photo import works without an internet connection. Apple’s services and device settings have their own privacy information.
Microphone, camera and other people
Microphone and camera access begin only after your action and the relevant system permission. Before Japanese live listening, TabiDex asks you to confirm that conversation participants know about the use and that you have any permission required where you are. This acknowledgment is kept only for that listening session; it is not proof that a recording is lawful. Ask the people involved before capturing or saving a conversation and respect local laws and venue rules.
You can stop listening, refuse or revoke permissions in iPhone Settings, or use typed translation and saved phrases. Listening stops when you leave the active screen, background or lock the phone, or hand audio control to playback. Spoken output can be heard by people nearby; choose text display when privacy matters.
Optional saved conversations
Saving conversation audio is off by default. If you enable it, you choose one hour or 24 hours and separately acknowledge saving before capture. Saved Japanese audio and associated Japanese/English transcripts are stored in the app’s private iPhone storage with iOS file protection and exclusion from device backups. There are storage and duration limits, so a recording may be partial; the app reports saving failures where detected. Recording alone does not improve translation accuracy.
Saved items become unavailable at their expiry. Physical cleanup happens when TabiDex can run and checks its recording storage; it cannot promise deletion at an exact instant while iOS has suspended or terminated the app. You can delete an item earlier in History. Local reprocessing reads a still-available recording and may produce a different transcript. TabiDex does not upload these recording files or send them to the Watch or widgets. File protection and backup exclusion do not constitute a guarantee of forensic erasure or control over copies outside the app.
Photos and current conversations
Camera images and photos you select are normalized for recognition and held in app memory. The source photo is discarded when the app backgrounds; you can also clear it in Scan. Recognized text, translations and the current conversation can remain in memory until cleared, replaced or the app process ends. Clearing TabiDex does not delete an original photo from Photos or iCloud. The app uses the system selection flow rather than requesting unrestricted photo-library access.
Watch, widgets and preferences
Only a reply you explicitly send is transferred to your paired Apple Watch through Apple WatchConnectivity. Private reply text is held in app memory and is not persisted in the app’s preference store. It expires after 15 minutes and disappears when the corresponding app process restarts. The app retains non-content ordering metadata to prevent an old queued reply from reappearing. Expiry and clearing are applied when the app can run; an offline Watch may receive a clear later. Apple-managed transfer caches and old backups are outside a guaranteed immediate-deletion promise.
Widgets can display an explicitly chosen phrasebook favorite through the app’s shared container. Favorites, study pins and settings may persist in device preferences and may be included in OS-managed backups. Widgets can be visible to others depending on device privacy settings. Remove a widget favorite or clear a shared Watch reply in Settings. This version does not create a learned habit profile or retrain an AI model from your conversations.
Website and support information
The TabiDex pages on angelproductlabs.com do not add advertising, analytics scripts, accounts, forms, or marketing cookies. Hosting and security providers process technical requests, which can include IP address, browser information, requested pages, timestamps and security cookies or logs needed to deliver and protect the site. This is separate from the app’s local processing. Provider logging and service retention are not controlled by app deletion buttons. See the studio website privacy notice.
If you email support, we receive the address, message and attachments you choose to send through email services. We use correspondence to respond, investigate problems, protect the service and address applicable legal obligations. Keep messages limited to what is necessary; do not send API keys, private recordings, identity documents or sensitive third-party information. Support and hosting providers may process information in other countries. Correspondence is retained as needed for these purposes and applicable legal obligations; contact us to request deletion. We do not add email senders to a marketing list through this support flow.
Choices and requests
Use the app’s data controls to stop capture, delete saved recordings, clear current content and remove shared selections. To request access, correction or deletion of information you sent to support, or ask a privacy question, email support@angelproductlabs.com. We may ask for limited information needed to verify and handle a request and will respond as required by applicable law. Your mandatory rights are not limited by this notice. We cannot retrieve on-device conversations from a server because we do not operate one.
Children and other participants
The app has no user accounts or age-profile collection. A child should use translation and recording features with an appropriate parent or guardian and with required permission from participants. Please do not send children’s personal information through support. If you believe we received a child’s information improperly, contact support so we can investigate and handle it under applicable law. A store age rating is not a statement that every use or disclosure is appropriate for children.
Earlier beta versions
Some earlier TestFlight builds, including build 13, may allow an optional personal OpenAI API key for reply suggestions. In those builds, a deliberate cloud request can send bounded conversation text to OpenAI; this is not covered by the Apple-only processing statement above. Such use is subject to the provider’s policies and your API account. Photos and saved audio are not uploaded by that reply feature. Disable that provider and remove the key in the older build, or install the Apple-only update when available. The Apple-only release removes provider settings and attempts to delete the app’s legacy Keychain credential, with retry guidance if deletion fails. Removing a local key does not delete data already processed by a provider.
Changes and security
We use the safeguards described here but cannot guarantee absolute security. This notice will be updated when relevant practices change, with a new effective date and additional notice where required. Policies and settings do not override recording laws, participant rights, or mandatory consumer protections.
